When people are talking about warm and cool undertones, what color is shock shade? Does warm=pink and cool= yellow?

That's a very simplified version, but actually, warm tones tend to be yellowy, and cool tones are pink. a good way to tell which you are is to look at the veins in your wrist, and see if your veins look blue or green. if they're blue, then you're cool toned, if they're green, you're warm toned.

So if you have warm undertones, then you have a yellow undertone?

That seems so backwards! So if I have MAC NW20...,then I have pink undertones...

I'm so glad you asked this question Jocelyn. I was actually wondering which was which also.

Warm is yellow like the sun - cool is pink because you have cool blue veins under your skin I guess.. Lol that's how I think of it.

Warm=Golden, yellow and peach undertones. Cool=Pink undertones. If you don't know what you are, look at your veins!

Warm=yellow/golden cool=pink/ruddy. Generally the lighter the skin the lighter the undertone. So some one with a light medium color with a warm tone would look more of a yellow color while someone with a medium deep warm color would look a darker yellow, golden or even a honey/peach shade. So a lighter cool skinned person will have pink while a darker cool skinned person would have more of a deeper pink color aka red. Then there's olive. I find some people find it interchangeable with warm skin but I don't. Not all warm skin tones are olive. Olive is called olive because there are some that have a slight green cast to the skin which I also have and I'm warm toned. I noticed this when I used warm toned foundations they'd always look peachy on my while my neck was more yellow with a slight green tint. I've read that an olive skintone can also appear on a cool toned person but have not personally seen it. Then of course there's neutral which is not warm nor cool

My problem is I have tan freckles and pink skin underneath! I think I'll do like Clarisa said and just try to find what matches! This whole time I thought warm was pink...so I'm still trying to re-program my brain...it hurts.

Ok first of all I don't think there's such thing as warm "VS" cool.
Second, stating that you're a "certified professional mua" doesn't mean you know more than me or anybody on here. Not trying to get crazy or be disrespectful but that was kind of a low blow to all. And to be quite honest I didn't understand your comment. #SorryNotSorry
Like ms Jackie said, MAC has theirs backwards. My mom has a warm undertone and I asked her what compact powder they gave her and she said an "NC" powder. I was like wtf! So I searched it and little did I know that their nc and nw is basically switched around.
Warm is yellow
Cool is pink
Have you ever gotten a foundation that is more pink than yellow, or vise versa.
I would suggest reading articles on this also. Since not all of us are professional or certified.
I will brag for ms Jackie though. 10+ years of being a professional makeup artist and I promise you, you won't hear her day that ever just to get her point across.

I used to remember it like yellow is a tanned colour "warmer" and pink is a paler colour "cooler"... this probably makes no sense to anyone else but it did me lol.
