Hello beautiful ladies.. I have read on other posts that there are harmful chemicals in makeup. What are these chemicals, what should I be avoiding? Or is there a certain brand I should be concerned about?

It's more from things like immitation make up that you may find on eBay and such places. they can contain chemicals such as mercury which can cause horrendous reactions. to be honest I couldn't name all the chemicals but it's a reason to stick to authentic well known a reputable brands x

There can indeed be stuff in some makeup and skincare products that is, generally speaking, not good for your skin and may cause problems. Probably the biggest culprits are fragrances, dyes, and high levels of alcohol, but there are many other ingredients - some of which are even made to sound exotic and beneficial in product descriptions, such as white oak - that are known to cause skin irritation, allergic reactions, and breakouts.
Unfortunately, this issue is not just as simple as "all chemicals are bad, all natural care is good." After all, natural skincare products work because of the chemical compounds that are present in their ingredients. There are also plenty of natural ingredients that are not good for skin - like that white oak I mentioned before - and plenty of synthetically manufactured chemicals that can actually be quite good for skin. Take retinol, glycolic acid, and hylauronic acid for starters.
In my opinion, the only way to really navigate this topic is to get informed about skincare and learn how to read the ingredient lists on products. A couple of great resources that I've found include http://www.beautypedia.com which has very detailed reviews of makeup and skincare products as well as education on skincare through its sister site http://www.paulaschoice.com, and http://www.ewg.org/skindeep which has great information about products that contain toxic levels of metals and other substances. http://www.aad.org is also a great resource for dermatology topics. There are lots of other great sites, too, but those will certainly get you started.

Another great site is www.cosdna.com it lists a ton products and their ingredients. It also lets you know what ingredients may be harmful. Just about every product I've looked up has been on there.
