I'm growing out my hair and I'm getting really frustrated. Its like a shaggy mess, grown out pixie. Any tips on how to style or it or anything?

I don't have quite the same frustration, but I'm growing my hair out too. Mine was colored so much, it was just time to start fresh and that meant growing it all out. Here I am almost 2 years later and I've finally got almost all the color out. I cut it the shortest I ever have a couple months ago to finally eliminate the majority of the remaining color on the ends because they were driving me insane.

What I've been using lately is Not Your Mother's Way To Grow leave-in conditioner. It doesn't make hair grow faster, that is all genetic, but it has seemed to have helped strengthen it so it can do its own thing. I feel like since then my hair has gotten a tad longer. It makes my hair feel softer at any rate haha :) they also have a shampoo and conditioner but I haven't tried them so far. I also have been conditioning once every week or so with coconut oil. It helps keep it soft and manageable. I usually do it when my hair starts to feel unruly and tangled and it helps a lot. I just saturate my hair with it and leave it in for a couple hours.

I have a great solution! Mini clips (kinda like the butterfly kind but brown or black). I buy them at H&M, and I get A LOT. Right now I lost a bunch of them but they were useful for growing out my buzz cut. So, you put some gel in your damp hair, then clip your hair upwards. The more clips you use, the prettier it will look (like a braid kinda!). You can part your hair in the middle or on the side. Check out the hairstyle I have in my cat costume picture to get an idea. Here is a picture so you can see the technique :) but with shorter hair it will take in all of your hair :-) Hope I could help, I'm really proud of this method and it's very flattering!

Also, once it got a little too shaggy in the back, I got a haircut where the nape is buzzed and the front is long with bangs (think Amelie Poulain..from the movie). This really helped and my hair is now chin-length, which is long for me! I would suggest you get a similar haircut. In the meantime, clips, bobby pins, headbands and bandanas (for a 40s look) will be your best buds!

The clips! Sorry I live in Europe so the timing is a little off. I posted a picture. Anyway, you would look great with a bandana 40s style :-)
