How To Get Nails Really Long?

I was looking at old pictres of me and I had really long nails. Now they are short and stubby and I want to get my long nails back- and nail polish looks so mich better on them and I'm crazy for nail polish in winter! I dont chew my nails and they got short because i got into a habit of cutting them a LOT. Ive gotten out of that habit but my nails still grow really slow. Tips??
