I've heard this can be used to dye hair but what about brighten hair that has already been dyed?

Hmmm I'm not really sure. Honestly I feel like it would just be a mess and could stain your skin. But I don't know for sure. I recommend John Frieda's new hair glosses, they are by the hair color at stores, and you leave them in for a few minutes then wash out. I personally have had good luck with it.(:
