I really wanna get my hair dyed blonde, but I can't afford $160 to get it done at my regular place. I've been considering getting it done for $40 at Vancouver Island University, by students. Has anybody here gotten their hair dyed at a university salon? What do you guys think about the whole idea of it? My next option is doing it myself, and I'd like that to be a last resort. Thanks!!

My one experience was not good, I went in for gellish nails and she missed like half of my nails. The weird thing was there wasn't a supervisor around. So I think if a supervisor is there, they're a lot better, but I don't think the lady really knew what she was doing and I was sort of the guinea pig.

Depends on where you go. research is key! at my former cosmetology school, I would NOT trust the girls/guys there with anything. it was the type of school that would let anyone pass the tests, regardless of skill, and the floor teachers didn't really care. there was too much drama within the school and that was the focus rather than the client, hence why I dropped out. that being said, there are many many fabulous people training at different schools and usually they will do a good job. I wouldn't advise against it, it can be a great way to save money!

This is not hair situation but when I studied beauty therapy I always had a qualified tutor supervising so I couldn't go wrong really ** ^ sorry about that comment ☺️

Thank you Georgie! I've never done something like this, so it's a relief that a qualified professional will be overlooking the procedure!! :****

I go to the Aveda Institute here in Portland, Oregon all the time and the students do an amazing job. Everything is over seen by an instructor so you don't need to worry about them messing up. Also the one I go to you can request a senior student so you don't get a freshman who has less experience. I'd say do a little research and read reviews if they're available just to be safe though.

Oregon has crazy high standards for their students and they're always being coached as they go so you can't go wrong, not sure about WA?

I'm not sure about how they do it in Washington either. Or is she in Canada?

If you are in Vancouver, WA I would say just drive over here to the Aveda Institute in downtown Portland. They really do a great job and all their products are natural/organic! It's pretty inexpensive as well. If you go make sure to drink some of the tea they offer, it is super yummy. =)

Check for reviews or something. this one I used to always go to, the girls always did a great job. then I moved & went to a student salon here... freaking terrible. that's all I have to say. my mom got a manicure & it looked like sh*t. the teacher even approved her nails. my hair wasn't what I wanted. she cut my layers too thick & too short. I wasn't happy.
