I would personally use a lifhter hand. Flick, don't drag the pencil or they turn out really dark and drawn on.

Don't use black on brows. Try a grayish color. Something dark enough to just add a bit of shade to your brows

Browns or dark browns never work for me ither. I use NYX Brow Cake Powder in Black/Gray and I've found this to be the only thing to work for me.
