Hello beauties!! so I am still on my quest to find the perfect foundation for me and my skin type. I have oily/sensitive/ CYSTIC prone skin and I feel like every foundation is making me break out with cysts! I am currently using aczone gel and monodox pills for acne (using less than a month) which are deff working but I am still having trouble with picking the right foundation! my skin was doing great with no foundations but I have tried bare minerals and physicans formula but I think the mineral make up just poked at my face and irritiated it (my face would turn bright red and itchy after use). I recently just started wearing the cover fx foundation natural finish oil free but I think that is making my skin break out in cysts even more along with the korres mattifying primer! I just started using the cover fc foundation yesterday and I broke out with a cysts under my nose already! so I am guessing this is the culprit but I just don't know anymore!! I don't understand why my face is so sensitive all of a sudden!!

The Mineral Makeup is indeed a bad choice for cystic acne. Have you tried Clinique? Their line is formula to be gentle and they have foundations that would suit your needs.

I'd also try tartes foundation. I find it really soothes my skin when it's all irritated and inflamed. I never got really bad acne other than on my period, but I've noticed that my skin is clearer since using this foundation. And it's good for sensitive skin.
But I'd go see a derm to figure out what's going on and see what they recommend.

I'd try Tarte as suggested or Urban Decay Naked skin. Everything works differently for everyone but that one particularly has never irritated my acne or given me more.

I definitely recommend getting samples. I know UD naked tons of people love, but it honestly made my skin feel trapped and irritated me so much. It burned when I took it off less than 10 minutes of wearing it. :/ but definitely try it (and as many other brands as you can), since a lot of people love it.

Thank you for answering ladies! I'm going to try the cover fx for a little bit longer because I think it might be the mask that I am using to brighten my skin, I used it Monday night and then got a cystic pimple on Tuesday morning, then I used it again on Wednesday night and got another cystic pimple on Thursday. So I am hoping that is the culprit! I'm going to try the cover for a little but longer and not do the mask and see if that was it! I have tried the clinique foundation but it oxidized my face and made it orange towards the end of the day and I did use a primer with it. I think if cover fx is still causing me problems and is the cause of why I'm getting the cystic acne again then I might switch to the tart brand!

I also went to my derm and she did give me pills for it and aczone gel which is working but then after I used the make up or the mask my acne decided to come back again! I use them both at the same time so I can't narrow it down to one yet. I also told her about the mineral foundation and she said you can try liquid ones and see what happens (so he wasn't all that helpful unfortunately)

Alyx and Caitlin do you use primers when you use the tarte clay foundation?
May 9, 2014
Alyx T.
I don't use primer unless I'm going to be wearing it for more than 12 hours, but I use the tarte primer in the purple tube. :)

I've never had problems with the staying power, it stays most of the day, and that's all I need from it. :)
But I'd definitely try it for a few days and see if you need a primer with it.

I actually didn't love the Tarte foundation myself, at least not the Amazonian clay one, but it works very well for others so I still recommend it. I just didn't have much luck with it. They have some other types I haven't tried either too. Overall though Tarte is usually good for skin with sensitivities. But I do use primer with my UD one, and I use Hourglass Veil Mineral primer.

Thank you Caitlin! I'll have to look into the UD one!
