Yeah my hair is the same, I can only curl my hair on 2nd day hair at the least x

I just got a 1 1/2 curling iron and I have really thick frizzy hair. For some reason the curls will not stay in even with hair spray. This normally doesn't happen to me because my hair normally holds curl really well! What should I do?
