I can never do it with a pen. I prefer liquid but you can find some that are stiffer so its easier for beginners.

I know this isn't a tip but in a magazine I saw a quote saying "Never question why a girl with winged eyeliner is late!" I think we can all relate to that.
What pen like liner are you using? For drugstore I reccommend Physicians Formula, their pigmentation amd ease of use is INSANE!

The best thing you can do is either watch utube or pull your eye but if it doesn't work I would recommend using a cream/gel eyeliner coz I also have a struggle with working with those two stuff so yer x

I've never tried but after attempting a wing with everything out there (except gel) I think gel and an angled brush would would the best.

Yes its the best to use for a start and when you get use to it try pencil and move on to pen.

I find it really easy to use gel liner and an angled liner brush. I usually put on my eyeliner (minus the wing) and then draw a thin line on the top, and angle it down to connect with the rest of my liner. afterwards I fill in the little empty space (: I highly reccomend watching YouTube tutorials, there are tons of ways and you can find which one works best for you.

I would use a piece of tape to help you guide your line. just google winged eyeliner tape trick and you'll see what I mean.
