I am a freelance artist. I had to build my own kit as I saved up money. I agree completely with Dakota ^^ it's just as important to have that stuff as it is makeup. After you get basics like that I would focus on basic stuff like brushes foundations powders neutral eyeshadows blush etc.then after you feel like you have a good basic set start building up and getting fun stuff. With my experience most people ask for more neutral colors to be used in their looks. I've never had to do a crazy green or blue eye look (I've been working freelance for two years) so really focus on getting the basics of everything. Remember you don't need to get every single shade of foundation either you can mix shades to get the right color for each person
