I'm thinking of dyeing my hair an ombré blue and I was wondering what would be the best way to go about it. I'm definitely doing this at home and would love any tips, tricks and recommendations! Also, what brands would you recommend? I'm looking at colors like Special Effect's Fish Bowl.

I'd get the manic panic flash lightening... Have a friend help at least for the bleach... I love special effects... I'd try that.. If ur wanting a pastel hue I've heard adding a bit of conditioner works also special effects is very thick I water mine down a little bit to make it last more... One bottle lasts me ( full head hair color) 3 uses which is good cuz my hair is medium-long n I have a lot of hair

In order to get the color u have to make sure ur hair is in good condition to use a color remover or bleach and get it as light blonde as u can and then apply the color u want to achieve but I would recommend to go to a pro to get it done so u don't over damage the hair

For a few days before bleaching, condition, moisturize and do masks to get your hair as smooth and healthy possible, then either buy a bucket or container of bleach powder and a bottle of developer, or a bleaching kit. Manic Panic's bleach kit is nice, works pretty well and comes with gloves and a tinting brush. I believe they have a 30 and 40 volume developer kit, 40 will lighten your hair a little more but will be more damaging, your choice.

Most unnatural color dyes will say to leave your hair pourous, which means to wash it and add no conditioner, so once you rinse the bleach, rinse it in warm water and shampoo it. If you're doing blue, make your hair as light as possible.

Special Effects Fishbowl is supposed to be a really nice blue color, and last very well. Splat is also pretty nice in my opinion.

To get a more pastel shade, mix a lot of conditioner with a little bit of dye. As in 3 or more parts conditoner to 1 maybe 2 parts dye. Mix VERY well! No such thing as over mixing. Just be aware that pastel shades are REALLY high maintenance, more so then just using the dye on its own.

Wait at least 1 hour to 3 before rinsing out the dye. Rinse it out in cold water and don't shampoo, but condition if you want to.
Try to wash your hair less then normal, and reduce your use of heat.

I love using Special Effects Fishbowl Blue, I get similar effects to the first picture you posted with that color. I have only put Fishbowl Blue on very pale white bleached hair to get those results though...

Another awesome brand is la Riche directions. They have awesome colors and it stays in your hair a lot longer than some other brands.

Special effects is the best funky color out there. Fish bowl looks awesome on the hair I have had it as accent pieces before.

Shawna, you may have to lighten it further, but to remove the brassy tones, you need a violet based toner. I am a fan of Wella Colorcharm T18 Palest Ash Blonde(used to be called "white lady" I think).

I actually suggest Splat purple washables or regular which come out in either 6 months if you use the bleach or a few weeks without bleach
