Why do you even wear makeup?

I like being in complete control of what others know about me and makeup is another way for me to do that. I also get bored extremely quickly so I love the variety of it. So much of my time is spent thinking, researching and planning makeup. It's also made me feel pretty and like I was worth spending the time on when I was younger and insecure.

I am 15 (nearly 16 in 2 weeks 😋) and I have 9 siblings. My family story was very messy and I was ALWAYS raised in a way that was "makeup is bad, this is how god made you, no dying your hair, this is the way you stay." However I was also raised on my mother constantly dieting and a lot of teasing resulted in me being very insecure about my weight. By age 12 my skin got very bad and I remember a boy on my bus would sit next to me for 45 min just to tell me how ugly I was and it really didn't feel good. When I got into makeup at 13 I very nervously asked my mom if I could wear it. As my skin got better I really didn't stop wearing my makeup because I liked it. The more I did it the more I enjoyed it. However it would still hurt whenever my mom would go against it with calling me a cake face or whatever lol. Since I've told her I really want to do it, and going through a very bad period in my teenage life, it's made me happier. I think that's really it. I wear makeup because it makes me happy and it's fun and it gives me something to look forward to in my future. It makes me happy and it HAS made me more confident. With and without makeup!

Omg, Jacqueline you are SO sweet! And I'm with you in that one too Jacqlyn W, my mom also went through cancer and chemo and she lost her hair and her skin tone was grayish and then me and her started experimenting with makeup to bring back the beautiful complexion she had before.

I don't wear it day so I can't say it's for confidence. This really got me thinking. I guess I just find it fun, getting ready in the morning is one of the best parts of my day!

Awwwww makeup mommy 😭😭😭 I shed a tear after reading that. I applaud you. I had a volunteering job doing art therapy at a hospital but my heart was just too weak for it at the time. I know your volunteering job can be a huge emotional load and I love your selfless take on this question. Also I tip my hat to the ladies with survivor moms.

And aw Bekah, I understand. I also, can see agree with some of my ladies that commented to! Makeup is just so much fun

Normally, I don't wear any makeup. but when I do I guess it's either just for fun, to practice, or to just make me feel all dolled up & pretty. lol.

I only wear foundation because I have Hursutism which is a medical condition that gives me extra androgen in my body which results is extra body hair. I literally have a beard and because I have thick, dark, course hair and I'm so pale, it's ridiculously noticeable so I started learning makeup tricks to cover it. I wear lipstick just because I am obsessed with how it makes lips look.

Thank you ladies for your inputs. So interesting to see all the different reasons we have

I wear it for a few reasons.
1. honestly I don't feel super ugly without it and it just somehow gives me the effect of confidence (probably cause I look older with it on and people take me more seriously)
2. half the people in my family are artist and I love to draw and paint but I just don't got it. but I feel like learning to do make up is much easier and you actully CAN learn but with drawing its just something you kinda need to be born with.
3. its so fun to put different designs on your face and be able to show your skills every day! its not like youd go around with a sketch book and be like "look what I did, do you like it!?" ha just my opinion.
4.its how I show my mood, I change my makeup look a lot. one day ill have dark thick eye liner the next ill have blue sparkly eyeshadow and bubbly cheeks x) its a way to either wear the mood your in. or you can do the opisit, if you wanna hide it.

I wear makeup because I like it. I don't need it, I feel fine going out without it, I just use it when I'm bored and have nothing to do.

Here is my story:
I'm only 13 and have been wearing makeup since I was 11. I have no friends, I can't trust anyone. I can't live without watching my YouTube "gurus". And I'm quite fat, I don't care what anyone says because I am. And because of this no one likes me so I learned to make friends with adults. I am friends with most of my teachers and even text some of them. I'm extremely smart (I'm in gate and stuff) and I have been faced with adult situations like money problems, death, ect. And to get to the point I think I wear makeup to feel more mature. I'm the youngest in my family and I'm known as the little one and hate it. Aunts, uncles, everyone calls me it. And like a said before I have been drawing since I was three And my room is filled with all my canvases and drawings so my new canvas is my face. If you read this I thank you.

You sound exactly like me when I was younger, Christina (except texting didn't exist back then so I was just alone). Seriously, I was the fat geeky girl with no friends, from a poor family, in the advanced classes at school (I was in GATE too), and I have also had to deal with the loss of loved ones as well as many brushes with death myself. I have no siblings or close cousins, so I've also been regarded as the baby of the family. I enjoy drawing and painting, but my escape was always writing. :)

Like Jacqlyn, I am also here if you want to talk about anything at all.

I wear it to hide my reddness and to contour my nose so it doesn't appear big :c
I love lippies, they make me feel pretty. and I do my eye makeup to make my hazel eye stands out. that is all.
