I have developed allergies to all hair dyes, includin ammonia free. I want to know if anyone knows of any way to use natural products to hide grey? I have quite a few long strands.

Thank you for replying, I live in the UK and the stores here don't seem to offer much choice. I tried Henna but when I washed it there was no difference yet it was supposed to turn reddish?

What kind of henna did you use?
If it was a henna box dye with instructions to mix it up and apply for 15-30 minutes its not real henna, it will be full of metallic salts and a lot of the time doesn't give very good results. If you used a henna box dye I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't do anything.
You have to use pure body body art grade henna for a good result and you also have to prepare it properly. As a rough guide you need to mix the henna with and acidic liquid until it reaches a yoghurt consistency and then cover and leave it at room temperature overnight to let the dye release. When it is ready you apply it to your hair and leave it for at least a few hours so it will dye the grey. This will give you red highlights where the grey is and looking at your hair colour probably a rich auburn colour every where else. You can also add indigo to the mix just before you apply it to give a brunette colour.

Last time I was in Tesco, the really big ones that sell clothes and electronics as well as food, you could buy boxes of body pure body art henna by a brand called Ayuuri although I'm not sure that they still sell it. You can also buy henna and indigo online quite easily.
