Semi-formal/Prom...Updo Vs Down?

Hey! So, if you don't know what semi-formal is, it's basically prom, except you're supposed to wear short dresses. I'm doing my hair myself instead of getting it done. I'm pretty experienced with hair and makeup, and I'm not afraid to try new things! He only problems is, I don't know which to do. An updo, or down? Any pictures or suggestions are welcome! Here's what my dress looks like.
