I have brushed my hat when it's damp for as long as I can remember. I use a air cushion paddle brush but the bristles are really far apart. I have very thick long healthy curly hair. Why is it bad to brush your hair when it's wet? I know your hair is very weak then but my hair is as healthy and thick as ever.

The bristles on my brush are as far apart as they are on a wide tooth comb. I'd that ok?

You should use a wet brush, I have curly hair and it doesn't pull out my hair
unlike other brushes

Because you have curly hair its usually only recommended to "brush" your hair when its sopping wet and loaded up with conditioner. I say "brush" because really you should be using a wide tooth comb not a brush to detangle in the shower. If you Brush damp or dry curly hair its just going to get bigger and bigger and less defined. If you want to detangle between washes you should just finger detangle as its stops the curls from frizzing.
I had a look at the pictures on your profile (esp. the one where your hair is curly) and by the looks of it you have the potential to have a full head of super smooth defined curls but things like brushing it while its damp can make it look big and pull out the definition.
I would really recommend you look into the Curly Girl Method and the tips at naturallycurly.com. It has personally really helped me out and has all sorts of tips on how to make the most of your curls and look after them properly.
Also check out this before and after curly girl thread. Its so amazing how changing your hair routine can drastically change how your curls look : http://www.naturallycurly.com/curltalk/general-discussion-about-curly-hair/47609-post-your-before-after-cg-pics.html
Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangent but I really think a lot of girls with curly hair don't know how to look after it properly including me until I found the naturally curly website and it was such a game changer. I used to brush my hair damp (along with a lot of other curly hair sins) and get a wavy-ish frizzy mess, now I have a head of 2b-2c waves/curls that are smooth and frizz free. I think you totally have a full head of 2c-3a curls just waiting to be encouraged and tamed.
