I've used coconut oil only once but it did make my hair seem kinda softer but I've never used a deep mask. What is it anyway?

Have you tried the curly girl method. Its amazing for dry hair and bringing out/taming wavy or curly hair. The basic outline is no sulphates and no silicones. You can either low-poo or co-wash depending on how oily your scalp gets. Then you use a heavier conditioner to moisturise your hair. Then you scrunch in any leave in products and gel then leave your hair alone until its dry.
Deep conditioner is also a great idea.
