you should shy away from liquid foundations. try a cream or wax based formula it won't cling to the dry bits. I like Urban Decay Surreal Skin cream to powder foundation.

Use a tinted moisturizer! What I like doing is mixing my foundation with a thicker moisturizer. It works really well. Also, if you don't need foundation, don't do it. I rarely use foundation, for most days I just use concealer and call it good

Stacey, I get really patchy and dry skin too, especially around the brow and nose area, what you have to understand is, if you want your foundation to go on smoothly and not look dry and patchy, you have to either use a really good moisturiser, OR and I do this all the time, you have to do a facial scrub before applying foundation, so as to rid yourself of excessive flaky skin. Believe me, when I was younger and I didn't do this, my foundation always looked flaky, because I tend to get excessively flaky dry skin. Doing a facial scrub will help so much if you have that problem, it will get rid of all that dead, redundant skin. Just don't scrub too hard or too often, as you can damage the skin, but don't get scared to be a little rough now and then.
You could do a sugar scrub, just mix it with whatever cleansing/gel product you have that is for the face, and the sugar will work great as an exfoliator. I hope this helps.
