I recently responded to an ad posting for a need of makeup artist. So as I contacted them and waited for a response : they said that their budget for bridal is only $45-$55. But I responded and said that I don't charge lower than my listed price and you require me to travel as well it's not fair. Do you think that people seeking cheap services through makeup artist who use good products and are doing well should even go for these types of offers?

Absolutly NOT! Dont cheapen yourself for someone elses "tight pockets". You know your skills and self worth ;)

I've seen prices like that at the Salon with the understanding that's its in-house and you do your own maintenance. But no, you wouldn't be making any money with 45-55 and I bet they wanted you to do the brides maids too while you're there. As a freelance designer, getting cheap clients isn't worth the hassel, they need up penny pinching. I would suggest to clients a couple of makeup bridal tutorials and wish them luck.

I've ways thought of it as good tattoos aren't cheap, and cheap tattoos aren't good, same applies for makeup

I would never do bridal makeup for that price. maybe they can get someone just starting out who just wants the experience if they want to take that kind of gamble with their wedding day but I would never lower my rate that low.

Thanks everyone for the input. I suggested that she go and look for someone who is beginning in this field because I have done many bridals and events with a strong portfolio. Plus the ad seemed fake because it is paid by the various events and this happened to be a bridal. Not to mention the bride has her own established business and does not want to pay for great services.

I never answer ads. They are the main ones with really low budgets.
