I think it's fine.. just make sure when you clean it your hands are clean also.

You just got it, let it be for a few weeks. It's a fresh wound so of course it's red and swollen.
Just make sure you clean it twice a day. I wouldn't do more than that as touching it to much will irritate it. Sea salt in warm water works well. Don't play with it or move it too much and be careful when moving your mouth, if it catches on something it'll be red longer.

What Alyx said :) and in addition, because you're a smoker you should be using a non alcoholic mouth cleaner after every cigarette for the first week or two to avoid infection. The redness is normal as long as it's not more tender then any normal new piercing and isn't showing any signs of puss, etc.

Shaye I do use mouthwash but only 3 times a day, and I did read on internet to only use it 3 times and then I did read it on another website were the say to do it everytime after a meal or smoking.

When I got my tongue pierced I'd clean it whenever I ate or anything so I think cleaning it after you eat and stuff would be the best option :) just whenever you think you should, yano?
