Hey guys I don't have dreads but I'm thinking about getting them. I have silky hair and it gets oily relatively quickly. I've done some basic research such as how to make them, tighten them, and wash them, but I was wondering if there are any other tips or tricks you guys use to manage them. Thanks!

I hope you know that you might have to cut your hair off when you don't want the dreads anymore or if you leave them in for too long because they're really hard to remove but if this doesn't bother you then have fun!

Oh no you don't always have to cut your hair off to remove them, there are other techniques to get them out.

Oh I heard you had to shave all your hair off if you grow bored of them.
In relation to how to maintain them, I would just youtube or google tutorials

No it's simply a myth that you have to shave off your hair :) I plan on making synthetic dread extensions and putting them into my hair so I won't have to do all that upkeep. doctoredlocks.com was suggested to me for dread stuff. Other than that, I don't know any tips to give you :)

I am not feeling white people dreads in general, but sometimes your hair just isn't the right texture. If you have silky oily hair it won't hold as well.

Just a warning (because I never see anyone mention this but all of my friends with dreads have said this happens) the first few months you have them, you can get open sores on your scalp because your scalp needs to get used to how they pull. I'm sure you know that it can be very damaging to your hair as well and you have to blow dry them or they can mold.

I did my bfs dreads and then combed them out because he didn't like them. there's also stuff you can buy for combing them out without shaving your hair off. I'd go to a salon some do it.
