So every once and a while I get these huge cystic zits on my chin, Always in the same spots. I've tried everything that I've seen on here, salacytic acid, doesn't do anything, whatever the acid one is, just irritated my skin, ice, did nothing and a clay mask, which just dried out my skin, made it Peel but it is still there, giant and painful. So what other trick can I try, and I don't want to go to my dermatologist, I don't really have the money and all they did last time was give me a cream that didn't work.

Benzoyl peroxide spot treatments are meant for under the surface acne. Salicylic acid would do nothing for those.

Unfortunately cystic acne is usually hormonal which means that topical products can't do much. I would recommend talking to your doctor about birth control because it can help regulate your hormones. I personally use a clarisonic to help deep clean my pores, and the cleanser pictured below. If you look up reviews for it, you will find that many girls say that it helps with cystic acne, and I definitely agree. Use oil-free everything, and be careful of the foundations that you are using. Cover fx is amazing for hormonal skin types. There are some vitamins that can help with hormonal acne also like evening primrose oil tablets and zinc. Drink lots of water and try to eat as healthy as possible. :)

Melissa, there are certain kinds of birth control pills that especially work to regulate hormones and help with Cystic acne. You need to ask your doctor for those specifically. Some kind of birth control like Ormeloxefin can cause cystic acne in certain ladies, for example me. So you might want to discuss this with your doctor.

Melissa, can you describe your skin a little for me? Are you oily, dry, sensitive?

It's dry and sensitive, I have roseacea so a lot of products make my skin freak out. I'll talk to my doctor about the birth control. I take ortho tri-cyclen. I dot remember is cystic acne was on the side affects list. I'll have to ask.

Try taking zinc and evening primrose oil supplements. They control hormones and are good for the skin. Since you are dry and sensitive, I recommend a cream cleanser like the one I pictured. Make sure you moisturize a lot! And a vitamin c serum could help with any redness or dark spots that you have from pimples. I really think you should make an appt with your dr though!
