Cocaine is made the same way, from the same plant. Like I said, chemicals are added to make it unique to the maker or to make it more addicting but it's still not made of chemicals itself. I had to do a whole drug history project for my health class last year, and mine was about cocaine. Modern and ancient.

My point about the water and air was that even the farmers who don't use pesticides or chemicals to grow their plants still get rained on and are still exposed to air pollution. Besides if they use any weed killer or anything on their grass or plants (not crops) it can travel through air and be on the crops, but they don't have to mention that. My moms old boyfriends friend was a organic farmer and I was personally there when he used chemicals on other plants like grass or just trees to kill bugs or weeds but avoided the food crops. It was in the air for days though.

This is not a argument Alyx we're just voicing opinions. Oh! C: new fact. But its not the same anymore. Its made with chemcials now. And who said anything about air Pollution and water , lol we're talking about the food. And what their putting in it.

I don't want to add drama to this argument, because it really is pointless. Each of you have had valid points but I definitely agree with Emily. And you can't just go full natural at all due to air pollution, and water.
But ciera, Cocaine has been around for hundreds of years. Ancient Egyptians used to make cocaine before any chemist were really established. Cocaine is one of the oldest drugs and though now people add bad things to it, it's actually from the leaves of a coca plant. So it is natural.

And emily ik what you mean my phone is acting stupid I'm just now seeing your comment. But I understand what your saying I'm just saying that the ones who say they love chemicals , there body going to crave it. (Without them knowing of course) But its kinda hard to explain what I'm saying lol. But thank you for the knowledge.

How else is all rhe chaos happening in the You.S its through the food we eat. Where did you think cocain came from? Its made with a bunch of chemicals. What about drugs -For health? Chemical made with a chemical basically. Point blank we're getting off the topic. It all comes down to what we want on our faces and in our body's? I don't need to study science to understand what these people are doing to society.

Stupid app posted before I was done typing.

I'm not saying that people who want to live a more "organic" lifestyle shouldn't do that. I'm saying that people should take the time to actually understand what is in the products they use, instead of going 'I can't pronounce it, it must be bad'. That was the point of my example with the egg. If I took away the explanation and just left the "ingredients" list, most people would assume that it is some manufactured product and that it is less wholesome, just because of the chemical compounds.

Obesity and increased rates of chronic illness are a result in major socioeconomic shifts in recent decades from a manufacturing and labor based economy to a service and information based economy. The average American is far more sedentary than they were forty years ago. Additionally, pollution from technology manufacturing as well as the massive increase in the number of vehicles operating in recent years, as well as water table contamination from decades of industrial runoff and other activities (mining, fracking, etc) contribute greatly to instances of cancer and other nongenetic illness. Not to mention reporting bias; widespread studies on instances of cancers were few and less widely accessible than in today's age of instant information. There very well may be less cancer than in the 1970s, it is statistically impossible to know for sure. The chemicals we use in products have not changed drastically. There are more processed foods, but that is an issue of nutrition rather than harm from chemicals. I have yet to see a single scientifically sound study that links any widely consumed chemical preservative or other ingredient to a major illness.

Scientists are not creating new chemicals. They synthesize chemical compounds using molecular structures already present in nature. There is nothing inherently dangerous in chemistry. Yes, certain chemical compounds are toxic to humans. Most are not. Chemical compounds in food and beauty products are not dangerous. Even if an ingredient has toxicity, often it is only toxic in quantities or concentrations so large that it would be impossible to ingest.

I grew up on a farm. I have grown, raised, and hunted my own food. I understand how the agricultural system works. Additionally I have studied chemistry and food science. I understand what chemicals are, how they operate, and what purposes they serve in the products we all use every day.

And about your last sentence , thats why you need to go these private farmers. Learn about it , and grow your own , if you have the money. There is plenty of ways to do things the right things , you just need the knowledge.

Emily , I never said ALL chemicals are bad. And I never said anything about it 'Automatically' causing health issues. I'm just saying what they are putting in this stuff is bad for all of us. Don't you know some NON-Gmo and organic companies tells lies? Yes this world is made up of chemicals but the scientist are making NEW chemicals WITH chemicals. Like I said I go to a relative and IK what's in the egg and IK what she does. Think about it. In the 70s on down the ratings on this was small. Now all of a sudden the charts are high with obesity , and food addictions and a lot of health problems. (OVER the years) Yes there was probably cancer then but it wasnt like it is now. Explain that? People are dieing for no reason with these chemicals the scientist are making. I'm simply , MOSTLY talking about what we're putting on our faces. Your talking about what we eat and put in our bodies. Both is a 50/50. MOST of the chemicals is harmful and there is a handful that isnt , But I do understand where your coming from though.

Ciera, your posts are a prime example of the effect that fear mongering against "chemicals" has on people. Saying that anything chemical is automatically bad or causes cancer or health issues is ignorant. Chemistry is not something to be frightened of; every single thing on earth is made of chemical compounds. The only difference between "natural" (which is completely unregulated as a product descriptor and means nothing) and lab synthesised products are the conditions in which the ingredients come together. The ingredients are chemically identical.

Scientific literacy in our society is extremely poor, and it is a major factor in brands capitalizing on these misguided fears. By saying something is natural, a company can charge more and people will buy. It's a very lucrative market.

@Maggie yea , I see what your saying , but its hard now days with the GMOS it is? We can't tell who put in what. Everything we have to get is get stuff from the source.

I don't think that's quite the point. There are clear benefits to scientific advancements across the board and chemicals aren't the "bad guy" nor is "natural" a legitimate path. My theory for diet as well as products is to aim for as few ingredients as possible. A clean lifestyle if you will. Everyone should be able to live the life they see fit but I'll say it again..if you don't care to be aware of what you're putting ON your body then you certainly shouldn't give a hoot what you put in it. You know? Seems like an absurd contradiction to moi ☺️

I search for private farms. Its more easier and safer I go to my family friends and I go to other places. But that still doesn't mean you should put chemicals on our face. Americans , including my self , are lazy. Back in the olden days everyone mostly grew their own crops or plantations. The ones saying they like chemicals , well thats not right to say. These "Chemicals" your putting on your face can cause cancer , kidney problems , ect. So go ahead and keep putting it on your face. Why can't we make our own fruits and vegetables to be healthier? Because we're too lazy. Its too much work.

Another great point Alura ☺️ the soil and water are so penetrated at this point that it's likely nothing is truly organic. However, supporting local and organic farms is the only way to encourage less pesticides and gmos etc. Anyone keeping up with the bee issue? Flowers from Walmart etc.are loaded with bee killing pesticides. I'm not saying we can save the world..goodness knows it'll all take care of itself at some point but in our consumer society I think it's important to direct our cash (our most prominent vote) towards the least destructive products.

Since chemicals are everywhere these days :(

Rissy, I agree with everything you said and it's truly scary. But I truly feel nothing is truly organic and is false to advertise so. Those same pesticides seep down into the soil here in florida and other places, getting in water. Those "organic" plants are getting watered with polluted water. I'm sure that soaks right into that food.

I'm not "pro-chemical" but I don't see how anything is truly as nature made it and organic.

Jul 31, 2014

Ciciii C.

@Rissy that is with them. I don't go to the public to get my fruits and vegetables. Its from a family friend basically , and they SHOW me what they do to their plants so I'm all good. You just need to find out a good farmer who is truthly on what they do with their crops.

Just to let everyone know, pesticides are extremely bad for you though. my sister is an environmental studies major, and I took an AP course on the environment, including the effects pesticides have. the over use/constant contact creates many birth defects and genetic mutations. the general population sees mostly just a rise in general birth defects, nothing super noticable, but farm workers and towns near high pesticide use farms often have incredibly high rates of defects, mutations, and infant death due to these things. the correlation between pesticide and general health is very strong. and just washing it doesn't do much, as often pesticides are sprayed into the roots, with the water, and are taken up by the plant into it, so the pesticides become a part of the actual plant. just clearing that up, in case it makes any difference to how you view organic vs non organic.

It's interesting to see how people categorize this issue. I agree that it's a personal choice and that obviously from a scientific perspective the world is full of chemical structures. I do however think it's ridiculous say you care about the food that enters your body but not the ingredients found in products. The fact is that we've only been smearing these specific toxins on our bodies for roughly 50 years. Not long enough (imo) to prove them safe. Also if you're at all into crafting or cooking diy beauty products are a flippin blast. I adore the world of essential oils and such and it blends beautifully with my lifestyle. To each his own right? I'd like to differentiate between natural and organic btw. They're not the same thing. Cheers!

The only thing that's remotely organic would be my lush oatifix mask. I do own two "good for the environment" facial cleansers and they work for me and my acne prone cheeks but everything else is pretty much not organic or natural.

As for the animal testing, I agree with S V.

Jul 30, 2014

Ciciii C.

Thats why I directly to a farmer to get my meat and fruits. So no GMO's for me.

Jul 30, 2014

Ciciii C.

@Alura you are correct. I'm more into organic because its for ME it works for ME. I don't know about the rest of you ans what it does. Even with the ingrediants that we see on the lables , who knows if their telling the truth on what there putting into this stuff. We're not scientist , whose to say that the meaning of that ONE Ingredient is a lie. Yes we can research all we want. But we won't find out the truth until we have the equipment to actually test this stuff out. But I can't go TOO organic because of the Gmos and we don't know what there doing to thw products that there shipping over the seas. To say you rather have chemicals on your face than natural is a bit scary. But I accept peoples decisions and go on with my life.

Yeah, me too. I often find that organic cosmetics just don't work for me :/

I need my chemicals. I think I've just been around them so long that my body can't really take " organic " stuff. I've tried a few supposed brands but it felt like it wasnt doing anything at all. I don't mind some diy recipes though even tried one which I thought was ok ( would just buy the item next time instead of making it though ).

I am totally on the health and organic food line, but for skincare no.
