Can you get rid of split ends without cutting your hair? I have pretty long hair and I've been growing it out for awhile, but I have split ends and I'm afraid that if I get them cut off, the hairdresser will take a lot of my hair off. Help??

You got to cut them or they will just split even more and you'll have to cut more than you do now.

Not really, they have to be cut off Stephanie :)
Ask her to specifically just cut the split ends which is usually 2-1 inches depending on how bad they are & just take care of them from the trim on :)

No, sadly, there is no miraculous potion for that! But, what you can do is get a pair of good scissors and get someone with a sturdy hand to cut off the amount you want, or, strictly tell the hairdresser how much you want cut off! I know how you feel about that, I'm always iffy about having a hairdresser cut my hair, they always cut much more than what I wanted off! Also, so try and get your hair not to split as fast, they sell shampoos that help prevent split ends! You can find some at any drugstore or superstore!☺️

There are tutorials on youtube about trimming split ends without taking length off but youll still need to get a trim after using this method; I twist my hair in little sections and any hairs that stick out thatre towards the ends that look split, I cut off. I do that around my whole head, I've only done this twice since I tried it but its working for me, my hair is noticebly healthier but this doesn't take off length, if you have any split ends after that though just go and get a trim 3/5cm cut off. Thats just how I keep mine under control, I don't know lol.

Nope! It just makes them have to cut more the longer you wait. When I go to my hairdresser that I have now and ask for a trim but to keep the length, you honestly can't really tell I got a haircut; it makes my hair look healthy but she doesn't chop it off like I've had others do. The guy that used to cut my hair would whack it off no matter how many times I explained, so make sure you have someone that completely understands. I know its hard to do because your hair is in mercy of them. You could do it yourself but sometimes this can end up being worse because the scissors that hairdressers have are insanely sharp compared to ones that you can buy at the store, thus not helping in the long run because duller scissors will make split ends happen faster. As far as helping prevent getting split ends sooner use a great heat protector and/or leave in conditioner (Its a 10 +Keratin is my favorite), Nexxus Pro Mend is a really great line for split ends too, using deep conditioners, and of course minimizing heat is a must.

There is actually a method named specifically for this called the search and destroy method...its were you get a good pair of hair cutting scissors and carefully look at all of the ends of your hair to search for any split ends or white dot damage and basically just cut off any you see...you don't have to cut off two inch of hair just because you have some split ends throughout your hair...but every now and then it is wise to get your hair trimmed at the hair dressers to keep your hair looking even and at its best.

^ What Hannah said. This method is called velaterapia. It's a brazillian split end method in which you run a candle along your hair (which is twisted) and it burns off the split ends. It doesn't take any length off however I highly advise you to go to a SPECIALIST if you want this treatment done. You really wouldn't want to burn your hair which I'm guessing in your holy grail lol!
