Tongue Rings & Bad Breath!!

I have a tongue ring and I'm always self conscious if my breath is bad. Most of the time I ask and the response is no. But when I change my piercing or clean it, it makes me wonder! It does not smell good at all so I wonder if my breath smells like that. Does anyone know what I can use to make sure my breath is cool? Any tips or tricks? I always keep gum or mints with me but I saw these fresh breathe powders in the January issue of Cosmo wondering if anyone tried those!
