Definitely the Yves Saint Laurent Faux Cils volume effect mascara. I've used it almost everyday for 2 years and it's beyond amazing in terms of both volume and length. I also love that it hasn't ruined my natural lashes.

Put castor oil on your eyelashes before bed.

I agree with autumn or you can try coconut oil. Also use a mascara that has less harsh chemicals in it so your eyelashes won't shed. I recommend the tarte mascaras. :)

Oils will not do anything for your lashes. Oils will not make them grow faster, will not make them thicker, nor make them longer. The only thing oils do is trap moisture around the hair shaft and against the skin. This can trap bacteria, leading to sties, blocked tear ducts, blocked follicles, and skin infections. Both castor and coconut oils are very dense and comedogenic. When used on or around the delicate skin of the eye, they can cause milia.
The only chemical product that will physically alter your lashes is Latisse, which has side effects. Using a wetter formula mascara, avoiding harsh clamps in the curler, and not pulling/rubbing when removing your makeup will prevent breakage and premature fallout.
Remember that you are constantly losing lashes. Your entire lashes are replaced every couple of weeks (roughly, depending on your genetics and nutrition). As long as you are healthy, well-nourished, and don't actively damage them, your lashes will be fine.

Most oils act as sealants. They trap moisture and prevent it from evaporating. Some can act as conditioners. This helps with breakage and can help disguise minor damage, but will not do anything to make hair grow.
The illusion of thicker hair or lashes is because of buildup. Hair may look longer because it isn't breaking as much, or because it is weighed down.
The reason that nothing topical (with the exception of medical treatments like Rogaine, Nioxin, and Latisse) will affect growth is because products like oils, shampoos, conditioners, and masks don't penetrate the hair follicle.
Similarly, that "inversion method" everyone keeps raving about is a bunch of tripe. Stimulating blood flow to the scalp won't change your hair. Much like how you don't get insane back hair after a massage, blood flow doesn't affect growth. Hang your head upside down all you want, all you're going to get is dizzy and a backache.
The rate and maximum length of hair and lash growth is controlled by genetics. Other factors can inhibit hair and lashes from reaching their maximum state, including breakage, plucking/pulling (when applying/removing mascara, pulling hair into tight styles, plucking/waxing/threading brows), damage from heat, chemical damage (e.g. bleaching, lifted color, color stripping, using harsh shampoos like lice or dandruff treatments), malnutrition, vitamin or mineral deficiency, medication use or medical treatments (e.g. chemotherapy and radiation), and dehydration.
If you are eating a healthy, balanced diet and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you only need to worry about preventing damage. If suddenly you begin losing lots of hair, notice your hair thinning, become brittle, or changing texture, you should see a doctor. Do not take any vitamins or pills without first consulting your physician, as they can have side effects if you take them without actually needing them.
There you have it, the crash course on hair/lash/brow growth.
