Why does straightening my hair make it greazier and itchy quicker?? How can I fix the problem (not with dry shampoo because it irritates my scalp) is it the way I'm straightening it or something??

I've never heard of this happening to anyone. Are you positive that you're washing out ALL of your conditioner?

I don't condition anymore because it weighs my hair down /:

I would try a different shampoo and conditioner line. Clean your straightener. & I'd imagine since you can't use dry shampoo, that corn starch and baby powder are out of the question too? Lol. Try that and see if it helps, and if not, I'd go see the doctor, it could be something health related.

Oh, well scratch the first part and just find a new shampoo.

I double shampoo (size of a 10 cent coin) and some times but a lotion from a hair shop that contains no oil

It's a good shampoo though, it's the only thing that stops the itching

It might be the lotion doll.

What shampoo is it?
Dec 12, 2014

It could somehow be the lotion.. but I'm not sure since it doesn't contain oil. Maybe it contains something else that's making it greasy?

There are some conditioner out there that won't weigh your hair down, you just have to test them out and see how your hair adjusts to them.

I agree with shanae on both things, I had a hair lotion that was "oil free" but it made my hair greasy looking & I had to wash it everyday ( I normally wash it every other day) I thought it was my shampoo but it was the lotion so I don't use any lotions.

It's a good one though and I barely use it, maybe once every few weeks.

I think you should stop using the lotion & if that doesn't help then I think you should switch shampoos, as far as shampoos I suggest AVEENO pure renewal& the conditioner doesn't weigh your hair down at all, also for conditioner the Shea moisture line is soooo light weight (it's the one I use) I absolutely love it.

Sorry I just realized that it's when you straighten your hair! It can be that you have product build up on your straightener!
Dec 12, 2014
Danielle M.
Is that possible? How do I clean it??
Dec 12, 2014

It's making it greasier because as your scalp produces more oil, it's traveling down your strands faster than it would take with curly hair (it can travel straight down rather than travel down a curl)

So it's not the technique or straightening per say, but I'm not sure what you would use to take out that extra moisture if dry shampoos are irritating... I've heard baby powder doing wonders!

It might me because you are taking all the moisture out of your hair so your hair is getting greasier to moisturise itself. You should probably condition if you can because it will

It is possible, what I do is I set my hair straightener to the lowest heat (so it can loosen up the product) & use a dry towel & clean it upwards or downwards, just one direction.

It can also be what Caitlin said :o

Conditioning will help her hair, but it can't be the oil build up because shampoo takes that it when she washes it. I do agree that it could be build-up in your straightener, that's why I suggested cleaning it.. I clean mine out at least once a week.

out* not it

It can't be the oil build-up from natural oils is what I meant.

I suggested it might be the natural oils because a lot of people with straight hair do tend to get greasier faster. It could be the straightener definitely, but I guess it really depends on when it gets greasy.
Is it greasy immediately afterward? Then it's probably the straightener. If you notice it after a day or two when in comparison your natural hair takes longer to get oily, then it might be something to do with your natural oils.
