I wear a liquid foundation, and honestly, I just apply it with my hands/fingers. After that, I buff it out with a sponge to even out any streaks I could have missed. it gives me a really nice, natural finish.

I like using Wayne Goss brush #1 for foundation. The Sigma F80 is really nice as well. imo.

Currently I use my Sonia Kashuk No.4 brush. It's life. Works fantastically.
I've tried sponges, I like them but they sheer out foundation when damp so I actually use them dry to blend out foundation (works great). If I use them damp, it's for refreshing the foundation after it dries if it's too matte.
I like using my fingers with my bb creams only.

For me it depends on the formula. Some work better applied with fingers...especially if the brand recommends use of fingers versus a brush for example. For my bb/cc creams I only use my fingers but for something like my Dior Star foundation which is a liquid...Beauty Blender or a brush. My Giorgio Armani Maestro foundation which is dang near like water in texture...my fingers because of the formula and its highly advised to not use a brush with it.

I don't wear foundation much but when I mess around with it I apply it with a damp wedge sponge applicator. I haven't tried using brushes before though!

A damp sponge, but I use a heavier foundation and the damp sponge thins it out ,so if you're using a sheer coverage foundation a brush or your fingers would be better.

If I use a thicker formula like Revlon colorstay or Estee Lauder double wear, I use a damp real techniques sponge. If I'm using something more runny or lightweight like Loreal true match or Estee Lauder perfectionist, I use the real techniques expert face brush.

I agree with Shelley big time about the Maestro or even the "dupe" which is Loreal magic nude. They both look just terrible when used with a brush.

I apply mostly using my fingers or a brush and then use a damp beauty sponge ( mine are by Quo) to even it all out and blend my highlighter and contour in.
