My hair always stinks or smells sort of burnt after I straighten my hair! How can I prevent that??

You're hair might be damaged or actually getting fried. I'd recommend heat protectant. Another possibility is that it could be the straightener is getting old or needs to be cleaned. My straightener did that bc I had a lot of product on it (heat protectant) so yeahh. Try cleaning it & if that doesn't work I recommend getting heat protectant so you don't burn of your precious locks!

If you have the ability to do so, turn the temperature down on your flat iron. It's too hot, so it's actually burning your hair while it gets straightened. A heat protectant will help, but not fix everything.

Okay thanks!! I have a heat protectant and my straightener was bought in July! So maybe the temperature.

It's a chi it doesn't say. Sorry.

Oh. I hate when they don't show you the temp. I agree using in low with heat protection is a must. Also be sure your hair is fully dry prior to using it. Good luck!

Oh man, Chis are so bad for your hair! Most of them don't have temperature controls, and they also have ceramic plates which absorb the oils from your hair and redeposit them when you use it again. They're horrible for your hair and super unhygenic. When that one gives out, I recommend getting a Croc. They have titanium plates, which make your hair super smooth and shiny, and they also have a temperature control (they go up to 450 degrees, I think, I use mine on about 350-375). They're also a bit cheaper and available on Drugstore.com for a good deal usually.

Ok, thanks! I actually just got my chi honestly and it was a pretty penny for my family so I hope it doesn't give out anytime soon. But I will definitely look for the Croc when it does!

Wow. We learn something new every day! I have a ceramic straightener from revlon (although I can control the heat settings) & I always thought it was so good on my hair because it made my hair so shiny! I just got it last year & I rarely use it. Is there any way I can clean it to remove some of those oils so I'm not redepositing them on my hair?

I have one as we'll from Revlon and love it. It's purple. But I also put oils back in my hair after showers!

Yeah, I do occasionally! I have mine in blue & it works so good! I never though ceramic was bad for your hair! It just seemed so beneficial when it added shine to my dull hair (:

Well it depends if you use a good heat protectant that really help it not burn I recommend the original fantasia hair polisher it's super thick and smells like strawberrys.

Yeah, I don't think it's very bad for your hair honestly. When I bought it I got lots of help from the Actual Beauty Advisors and she told me it was great for my hair! So I'm just going to stick with my straightener! Yeah mine adds shine as well. Yet another reason why I am going to continue to use mine!

I definitely understand, it will last a good two years for sure =) I had Chi flat irons for a solid 8 years or so, and I will say with 100% honesty my Croc is a million times better. It makes my hair so much shinier than my Chi ever did, and the straightening effects last far longer because my hair doesn't get greasy just from using the flat iron, so I don't have to flat iron it and then wash it the next day. My mother (who knows literally nothing at all about hair, she keeps hers short and leaves it alone for the most part) commented on how much nicer my hair looked with the Croc flat iron. This is all my personal experience and I definitely understand wanting to keep Chis, they're on the expensive side. If you want to remove the oils from it I recommend carefully wiping it with rubbing alcohol after you use it, I used to do that and it did an okay job.

(also, just a quick heads up, most "beauty advisors" or "consultants" are paid to sell things and work on commission, they don't necessarily know everything about a given product, which is why in places like department stores, I tend to ignore them when they offer advice. They're not actually trained, they're just salespeople)

Haha maybe so. This one is a family friend and went to a top beauty school in LA. And grew up in a family of hair and makeup pros. :) thanks for your help.

You might want to turn the heat down on your flat iron because you probably are burning your hair. Hence the smell.
