Before and After- honest critiques please!

The left side of the after photo looks a bit less blended than the right, but I suppose you already knew that =) I personally wouldn't put it up, but I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. Not that it isn't beautiful, it is, but if someone knew to look for that, it wouldn't be hard to see. Am I making sense?

What exactly did you use for it? Some jumbo pencils are better than others =)

I used Sephora's waterproof purple jumbo eyeliner. Pretty sure the waterproof part is what sabotaged my attempts at blending. I'm going to stick to actually eyeshadows for the day of her event. I'm just so glad I got the practice run in, the look she wants is a difficult one for me to create.
Thank you both so much for your feedback! I'm also practicing fake lashes this week for all the appointments I have for this event on Friday. Even in school I always was terrible at false lashes. Ughhhh yall just please say a prayer for me!

Ah, I have that. You're right, it's horrible at blending because it's designed to be waterproof and unsmudgable (much like my beloved Urban Decay shadow pencils)...In the future, you may want to look into Nars Eye Paints, specifically the purple shade which is called Tatar. It blends really nicely, if that interests you and is within your means.

Good luck with the falsies, I'm awful at them too, but I have faith in your abilities!!

Hannah I love the Nars brand. I am definitely going to look into that at Sephora tomorrow. I don't have a pic of what she wants, she printed it off her computer and brought it to me. (Sandra). You guys are so great for helping me out, thank yall!

Imo something about the color of the brows looks...ashy? compared to the shadow color. The face looks great! You really made her lips "pop" and opened her eyes! will you post a final look? would love to see it?

I think your technique looks pretty good, but it's way too much makeup in my opinion, even for an event where dramatic is the look. Eyeshadow in particular. Foundation, blush and lipstick looks great. I will admit that you opened up her eyes a ton too!!

Thank you all for your input! I kinda figured it wasn't really up to par, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my insecurity talking. I have those friends who will tell me that it looks great just to be nice but that's not what I need, I need an honest review. Yes I'll definitely post a final look. Thank you ladies!

I've been loving all of the looks you have been posting.
I'm no expert at all so I don't feel my input should have much merit.
the only part that bothers me is the brows for some reason. I wonder if you should maybe soften the inner part and maybe even bring it in a little more. so it lines up with the inner part of her eye closer to her nose. hope that makes some sense.
overall it's beautiful!

The brows look green on my monitor. It is probably down to the photo, I think. Maybe this isn't the best photo to post, just because of that, not necessarily the makeup.
It's always a fine line between waterproof/longlasting products and beautiful blending. A lot of eye looks are done with shadow and are stunning in photos, but I always wonder what they are like 2, 3, 4 hours later. If the client is going to an event then you want her makeup to last, not fallout, etc.
I've used sephora's own brand shadow sticks and they are waterproof, etc. and blend a bit better than many I've tried, and at $12 or so each, aren't a bad deal. Also MUFE aquamatic is a lovely product that plays well with others.

Nikelle thank you! And I'm so glad that several of you have pointed out her eyebrows to me. I never would have noticed that and now I can pay more attention to it with my future clients. That's just awesome! Jenny I've been hearing great things about MUFE eyeshadows, I haven't tried them yet because I have so many palettes from so many other brands. My goal is to start building up one-by-one shadows (if that makes sense) by different brands. Thank you all for your help!

Yasmin I agree with you- she does have wonderful features naturally. I'm starting to notice a line in makeup artistry between doing what I think looks best and doing what the client wants. The girl above is not an example of that, however there was an older lady I did the other day and I tried very hard to steer get away from a dark, blood red lipstick. She had thin lips and just being older and light skinned I didn't feel it looked good on her. But that's what she wanted. So I did it to make my client happy and I just didn't post it. It reminds me of a dentist I used to work for. A patient came in and wanted a cosmetic gold front tooth with diamonds on it. The dentist agreed to do it as long as the patient promised not to tell anyone where he got it from. (This dentist was a little uppity). I'm finding the same principle coming out with a couple of my clients. Again, not the girl above, I did that to her, I admit it. I guess I'm rambling now but I was reminding of this idea when you said she doesn't need makeup to be beautiful. Sometimes I just walk a line between doing what I think looks great and giving my client what they want.
