Hey guys and gals,
I have a bothersome problem. I have semi dry ends and split ends, but my roots are always so greasy! What is the meaning of this nonsense!? Haha.

I have oily skin, so I thought, "well, your scalp is your skin too..." So now the question is, how do I fix these greasy roots? I feel so gross an hour after my shower!

I don't blow dry my hair or style it with heat, all I do is towel and air dry. My hair has been color treated before, but my roots are 100% natural.

how do I fix this? any product recommendations under $20?

What shampoo/conditioner are you currently using?

I don't think you're washing every bit of your conditioner out. Maybe purchase some dry shampoo as well.

How often do you wash it? :)

When you wash your hair focus the shampoo in the roots, when you rose it out the excess shampoo will run down the hair shaft and cleanse the ends. When you condition focus the conditioner on the ends. The ends are the oldest part of your hair and need the most moisture, they are also the farthest away from your scalp so they receive the least amount of oil

It seems like you're not getting you scalp , you really need to get in there to break up the build up , like these ladies said! Shampoo isn't really meant for the hair shaft, but to cleanse the scalp!

Hey ladies, thank you for the suggestions!

@Shanae- I actually don't use a conditioner because of this whole situation. My shampoo that I now use is a 2 in 1, but I'm really hating it.I'll look into dry shampoos though.

@Rebecca, I shower every day but I actually only wash my hair every other day because my hair cooperates more this way.

And @Brittany, I was using John Frieda Frizz Ease, but the greasiness of my hair made me quit using it. My mom ended up giving me some of hers, which is a Suave 2 in 1 "ph balance" one for all hair types...but it seems this is making my hair worse than my old shampoo.

Try using and Aloe Vera or Tea Tree shampoo and use the palm of your hand to wash your scalp instead of your finger tips as the fingers stimulate the oil in your hair follicles. Also don't wash it to often. Try and string it out as long as possible by using dry shampoo.

Okay well issue #1, 2 in 1 hair products are AWFUL! Definitely buy two different products from now on, your products will work so much better that way and your hair will look better. I recommend the L'oreal EverPure Line, it's wonderful. It smells nice and clean, and it won't dry out your hair.

In the shower, use shampoo only on your roots, and condition only from your ears down. This should help a lot. If it doesn't, definitely invest in a hair mask or a deep conditioner. I'd recommend verifying if you can get away with just shampoo and conditioner before you try a hair mask :)

@Chelsea, I love anything with "tea tree" in it, so I'll check it out. Thank you for the advice!

And @Hannah, I learned how much I hate 2 in 1 stuff the hard way, haha. Thank you so much for the suggestion and advice. My hair was literally killing me. Okay, not literally, but almost.

Trust me, I didn't figure out how to make my hair stop being evil until last year (and I'm almost 21! I had NO CLUE how to deal with my hair for 20 years!!) So I completely understand the sentiment. Feel free to let me know how shampoo and conditioner works for you, and I'll suggest a few more products if you feel like you need them or your hair still isn't cooperating =)

I have the same problem! I agree with the other girls suggestions. also, the right shampoo makes all the difference. I personally loveee Aveeno shampoo. I can't remember the name right now but I use the one with the green writing on it. also try doing a coconut oil hair mask once or twice a week. coconut oil can make your hair very smooth and shiny. it also creates a bit of a coating on your hair which protects your hair from shampoo. your hair gets damaged because the shampoo strips your hair of its natural oils. the coconut oil seals the hair follicle which makes it a lot harder for the shampoo to damage it

I used to have this same problem. like hannah said, I now only use two separate products and condition only from the ears down. on the days you don't wash your hair, use dry shampoo or baby powder. some people like using a clarifying shampoo once a week or so to get rid of all the residue. I don't like using moisturizing shampoos. I prefer using moisturizing conditioners. :)

@Shauna, isn't a pain? And trying a hair mask sounds like something I would do, I've seen so many people rave about them. Until Beautylish, I didn't know hair had masks haha

And @Kaylee, thank you for the baby powder suggestion. haha, I was out the other day and my hair looked so bad, I tried swiping those clean and clear oil absorber sheets through my roots as a desperate attempt to make my hair look less "haven't been washed in three days" haha
