Absolute hog wash. Sugar granules have jagged surfaces (this can be viewed under a microscope) so all it creates is fine tears on the skin eventually further enlarging pores and just making a mess outta your skin. Intially it may seem like its performing miracles but its only short lived. I did this in my early teens (not knowing any better) along with some other nonsense (using straight rubbing alcohol as a toner being one mishap) and wish I never fell for it because it contributed to massive skin issues which I didn't fully resolve till my 20's. Please don't fall for this one and just go the drugstore route with Biore's Charcoal Cleanser or pick up 100% Pure Pineapple Enzyme Peel from Amazon which is great at exfoliating your skin.

Don't ever use sugar to treat acne!! Sugar is pure food to the bacteria that cause acne, which is why dermatologists recommend diets low in sugar. Try a gentle scrub with salicylic acid, followed by an overnight mask (preferably one with charcoal) to restore the moisture to your skin. Repeat the scrub/mask procedure every 2-3 days until your skin is back to normal.

Also, I've heard that oatmeal based scrubs are especially effective at calming acne but without stripping necessary moisture from your face. Wish I had one to recommend, but you should be able to find one easily enough at a beauty supply/drug store.
