Also, is it better to dye on freshly washed or day old hair, I have very oily hair so will the dye just slip off?

I'm going to attempt to dye my hair one more time. it will me close to my natural hair color which is a dark brunette. My hair never holds dye but I've been treating my hair and it's a lot healthier so I'm going to try again. What are some tips? other than color safe shampoo and stuff? much appreciated, thank you :)
