I would try to put coconut oil on it and brush it from the bottom up. Like tips to roots.

When you have conditioner in your hair, finger comb through the knots. I find it much easier that way & then you can kind of pull apart the knot that way.

I was thinking what kat said before with the coconut oil because my hair is damaged (that's why it gets tangled so easily.) and when I put coconut oil in my hair, it separates into tiny strands. I thought this May be good for the getting out the tangles. Thoughts?

Get a comb (not brush) and slowly from the outer side of the knot, comb the hair so it separates. Make sure to go slow! :)

Don't know if you've solved this now but for future ref, shower slather your hair in conditioner leave it in for about 10 minutes while you wash your body etc, then don't rinse it out take a tangle tamer brush and brush through it then shower the conditioner off, works a treat on my daughters tangly hair x
