I have oily skin and smashbox photo finish primer works just okay with my skin..it reduces the appearance of pores but it doesn't keeps me matte..so I was thinking I would rather buy a dupe than invest in that again. has anyone tried it? any other good mattifying primers that you girls suggest?

Isn't hourglass mineral veil primer too expensive? :-(

I've used it before and a thin layer does the job.

I liked the Monistat, many ingredients in it are actually very close to the Smashbox primer. They have the same texture, that like silky feeling lol. I'm not oily whatsoever (I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum - too dry!) so I don't know how well it holds oil back but for the price it's worth a try. A huge tube of it is like $7 versus the $36 or whatever it is for Smashbox. And if you reallllly hate it, Walgreens/CVS usually have a pretty lenient return policy. :)

Just so you guys know, they're talking about the monistat CHAFING GEL. It isn't made for your lady parts or anything, it's made for, for example, between your thighs to prevent chafing :)

Hahaha Molly thank you!! I forgot that people who don't know about this weird product are probably like "wtf?!?!?!" reading that we're all over here with Monistat on our faces lmao. :)
The chafing gel is just made by the company Monistat, appearance / texture wise it looks just like the Smashbox Photo Finish lol

Go on YouTube and look up Tati, her page is called GlamLifeGuru. She swears by the monistat gel. She used it in one of her most recent tutorials. :)

I personally would not use monistat for my face. The only similarity is a silicone base, in which if you want to get technical about it... just about anything with a silicone base like conditioner, hair products, etc.are similar so you might as well rub some conditioner or hair serum while you're at it.
The skin on your face is a whole different story than the skin on your body.. Primers have the correct PH for the skin on your face, and I have noticed that smashbox primers also include some skin friendly ingredients such as vitamin a, anti-inflammatory ingredients, peptides, etc. There are loads of inexpensive drug store primers on the market as well.
Hourglass Mineral Veil primer has a travel size that's about $18.00. I bought mine months ago, back in may.. and I finally made it half way through it. You only need very little so I personally don't feel there's a need to spend $$$ on hourglass' full size primer unless you are using it on other people.

Sevetria M.
I have seen some muas suggest that and the milk of magnesium.

Oh ok then! I won't buy it then! thanks guys!
yeah Kitty I got the smashbox primer in deluxe size n it lasted ne for a looooong time so I guess same wld apoly for hourglass
Sevetria, milk of magnesia is too harsh..it keeps skin dead matte..whereas commercial primers help the makeup glide on while reducing pore size :-)

I've heard the benefits porefessional primer is really good.

I have tried it a few times and honestly didn't like it. My makeup didn't stay matte and it smelled kind of funny as well. I would say do as Kitty suggested and just buy the travel size of Hourglass or another product actually meant for use on your face.
