Sometimes when you try new skincare products you start to break out a couple of days later and sometimes people say that's the product "purging" your pores and bringing up the underlying acne to the surface. So my question is: When you break out from a new skincare product is it your acne purging or is it your skin having a negative reaction to the product?

I was wondering the same exact thing!

I'm pretty sure it could be either. I've never really had a bad reaction to a product before but I did purge once and then my skin cleared up dramatically! So the purge is definitely real and obviously we know that negative reactions to products exist too. I know that's a bad answer but that's all I have haha sorry! I'm not a professional so I'm just speaking from experience :)

I think it depends on the kind of breakout you have after using the new product whether it's purging or reacting badly. Like if it's just regular pimples (like whiteheads) it's probably, most likely, purging but if it's painful cystic acne or a red rash or something else that would be a bad reaction. I'm just guessing so I don't know for sure lol.

Oh okay thanks I was also wondering if the type of acne can help you determine if it's a reaction or not.

I thought you were talking about the movie when I I first read the thread lol cause apparently it's actually happening places.
But what you're actually asking, yes. Haha

Yeah, I was thinking you were asking about the movie also, but it's true. The purging can happen.

Haha @kelsey and Leslie I know I did that to get people's attention ☺️

Yes it happens. I don't think it happens to everyone though.

Thought you were talking about the movie, too..lmao :')
Yes, it's very real. Like Cassidy said, it's determinable also. If it's white heads, it's purging. If it's cystic acne or a rash, it's definitely a bad reaction

Lol, but seriously I think it is real. It has happened to me a few times. But then my skin always goes back to it's old disgusting self, even after it gets better after purging.

Ha I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who thought you were talking about the movie lol.
