So I have acne prone skin, and I heard that African black soap is good for acne. I bought the Shea Moisture African black soap bar for troubled skin last week. On the first day of using it my skin looked bright and glowy. But the rest of the week I kept getting a new pimple everyday and it's the kind that's under the skin and big. Should I give it more time because my skin is purging? Or is it actually breaking me out and discontinue using it?

For acne prone skin types, I would stay away from any soap in a bar form. The ingredients used to maintain it in a bar are typically highly comedogenic. Plus, your skin doesn't know whether your soap is African, American, Egyptian, etc... it is just marketing ploy.

Cetaphil makes a great cleanser, as well as CeraVe.

Oh yeah kitty I checked the ingredients but there were only 4 ingredients mentioned and the one to keep it in bar form wasn't on there. Do companies usually mention that ingredient on the package?

No, I have a bar soap that doesn't even mention ingredients. There are a lot of ingredients that don't have to even be mentioned, just like with food. You never know what you have until you do a lab test on it.

CeraVe has a wonderful cleanser and moisturizer for your skin type (dry skin or oily skin or both)

I second the recommendation for CeraVe to calm your skin without drying you out. To address spots, I'd use diluted tea tree oil or, my fav, Bare Minerals Blemish Therapy. Both Burts Bees and The Body Shop have diluted tea tree oil for ease of use. I'd also moisturize with jojoba oil, which is gentle and inexpensive.

I recommend Cetaphil! Used it for a few years now and has improved my sensitive acne prone skin.
