Can our hair grow only to a certain length? I'm devastated because I want to grow my hair to my butt but I've cut it short for so many years I don't know if that's possible? Just a rumor I heard I don't know what do you all think.

I thought it was mostly genetics. I looked it up and this article came up: http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2012/05/why-does-hair-only-grow-to-a-certain-length/

Yes it does grow up to a certain length and is determined by genetics. Every one is different so I don't really know what the record holder for longest hair has to do with it... but if having long hair doesn't run in the family then don't get too bummed if your hair doesn't reach the floor.

I don't think your hair stops growing at a certain length, rather some people's hair grows faster than others (which is determined by genetics) so if you have slow growing hair or hair prone to splittage it can be much harder to grow it out. My advice would be to only get it cut when necessary and to only cut off the parts that begin to split so that hair doesn't split up the shaft. Also please don't take any "hair growth" supplements like biotin or whatever without consulting your doctor :)
Also you might want to do some research because I'm not sure this is all correct, it's just what I thought happened lol I've never heard that your hair stops growing before.

It's the rate of growth that get slower after a certain length...how long you could grow your hair and at what rate its determined by genetics...keeping it healthy would help you to grow it even when it takes longer than other people.

Its actually just like your lashes... some will have long lashes some will have short lashes. Some people have curly hair and some people have straight hair, the hair on our head is no special exception. Hair goes through a cycle before it stops, if you think about it it actually sounds sillier to think that the hair on your head will never stop growing but it will stop everywhere else.
it's why I say, don't get bummed out if having hair up to your feet doesn't run in the family.

I had long hair when I was a kid like at my waist but my parents took me to get a haircut when I was 6, to my shoulders and since then it hasn't grown past a couple inches past my shoulders :( lol. I know how you feel hahah, it's just not happening!

Hair can only grow a certain length
It's silly to think that it will keep growing because then there would be no telogen phase

Yes your hair stops growing at a certain length. That length is different for every person and can change as you age and with the amount of processing you do to your hair. I have to explain this to clients all the time. Some peoples hair just won't get super long, some will. It sounded strange to me too when I learned it in cosmetology school, but it's true.
