I have my hair down and curled right now but I'm not sure if it takes away from my dress. Should I leave it down or put it up in a messier updo?

It actually looks good. I would personally tie the hair like a low side ponytail or a low bun.

I'd say a high bun since the dress is flowy if it were skin tight thn hair down:)

I kindve like it down but I could see a loose side pony, or loose bun, maybe a loose side braid. Just experiment with different styles and decide what looks best from there! (:
