Ball/Formal Make Up! Opinions

So I have my ball in a few weeks and I have heard not to have too much dramatic make up, especially with the eyes. My dress is hot pink, so I was thinking a smokey eye, or silver eye shadow. I need opinions of how to have my make up so that I don't look silly but I still look nice :)
