As long you have virgin hair, color will lift it a few levels, as long as you use a 20-40 volume developer you'll get a noticeable lift. I always advise getting it done professionally. As a licensed beauty industry professional, I've fixed far too many "at home" color jobs to advise anyone to do it. Especially to beautiful virgin hair

If that's your natural color you can use a "high lift" hair color that's lift your hair a few shades lighter.
As for treatments prior to bleaching you'll need to use more of a protein treatment.
Bleaching the hair takes out pigment and the natural protein in hair. Your hair is like 90%+ protein and when you bleach it, the bleach is actually taking out protein as well. That's why some people's hair breaks off. Use a good protein treatment a few times before bleaching
