Those are designed to give you right curls. However, you could try wrapping your hair loosely around the barrel and maybe that would work...

I use my 1" wand and wrap larger sections (about twice the size I normally would grab) and wrap it starting halfway down my hair. If you gran small sections you will have small curls but with the larger sections you can get bigger curls. I usually just finger comb through them after to loosen them up a little more. Hope this helped!
