My skin is normal-dry and I moisturize regularly and also use hydrating face masks weekly. My skin looks fine without make up, no dry patches or anything and I always use a primer (either smash box or porefessional) and my make up looks okay when I first apply it and I never add powder, however, after a few minutes I start to see flakiness and it looks terrible, mostly around my nose and chin area. Any suggestions?

If your skin looks fine without foundation, then just moisturize and wear your eye / lip makeup and some blush if you want. In my opinion it's not necessary to wear base if you don't need it. I hope this helped \\ xoxo.

I have really bad redness on my cheeks and nose so that's why I wear it, I meant that my skin isn't flakey or anything when I'm not wearing anything :) thanks though!

Could it be the foundation you're using? I've found that some foundations I use tend to do that after a few minutes :/

You might want to try an exfoliating scrub to help with the flakiness. I suggest st. Ives green tea scrub which will also help reduce any redness too!

If nothing will help you can go to the derm and get a micro derm abrasion. I got one today and my skin looks way better with makeup on.

Have you tried a different skin care routine?

I suggest using a BB or CC cream. They are light on the skin while still giving you an even tone. Definitely more breathable than a regular foundation! It doesn't even feel like you are wearing makeup :)

Maybe try an illuminating primer with more of a liquid base? For example loreal do a great one :)

Try getting a foundation for dry skin. And make sure your foundation and primer are compatible. If you have normal-dry try to stay from products that have alcohol in your skin care that will dry it out even more.

I have a pretty decent range in foundations. I have tarte, Mac, bare minerals serum foundation, cover girl, revlon. So I've tried high end brands and drug store. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it's so aggravating. I use st Ives to exfoliate but it doesn't seem to help. My skin care mainly consists of first aid beauty with a the body shop serum. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I think it might be the porefessional primer your using. Do you use it all over your face or just on your bigger pores?

I believe the problem is partially your skin care routine and your primer. you should try exfoliating about 2-3 times a week. also always cleanse, tone, and moisturize. as for your primer, I believe the porefessional is silicone based. (I don't know about the Smashbox one). I have oily skin and I use the hourglass veil mineral primer which is silicone based and it actually brings out random dry patches on my nose. the silicone based seems to cling to any dry patches that you have so I highly suggest getting a water based primer and foundation. also consider trying a bb cream as a primer. check out Marcelle Sheer tint fluid foundation. it's very sheer like a bb cream and is very hydrating

Exfoliating is important but put a lot of moisturizer on.. Choose one that says deep moist or something like that and then go who a primer that is meant for dry skin and go light on foundation.. Try to avoid matte foundations

You should exfoliate
