Hello I want to be a professional makeup artist and would love to learn more about makeup but I am confused about the correct path to choose should I join an online makeup course as I don't have a nice institute where I live or should I learn through various books by makeup artists and through videos? Are online makeup courses any good? Can you guys recommend a good online makeup school? Please help I really love makeup and want to make to do it professionally.

I know it's going to sound crazy, but if you've got a local mall, I'd go work for Clinique; or another counter secondly. Clinique spends many hours training their people not just to apply makeup but why to use all their products and sell them. Then, go find a school, not online though. definitely is a hands on job, need to learn hand on=) good luck!!

Don't forget, as a working, unlicensed mua, its your job to know sanitation and universal practices. I'm even insured incase of allergic reaction, ect. Ya never know. Take some kind of class to under universal precausion. I'm a big stickler for better regulation in mua industry. But thats me... I'm a bit quirky.

Also, learn about skin...
Color theory
Cosmetic chemistry, how to read labels. There us a lot more then application.
My art degree even helps me. It gives material to be inspired from. Go to plays, art exhibits... find your own hand... and have lots of fun... make up is rewarding and emotional... it connects you on a personal level, with amazing people.
