So on the 30th I'm seeing the dermatologist for te first time. My acne has just gotten so out of control, I need some professional help.
My question is, what are dermatologist appointments like. Do they reccomend a skincare routine? Will they give me anything to fight acne on my first appointment? Any information would be useful. :)

Mine have been pretty brief and they haven't given me a skin care routine but probably will make some suggestions if you ask. They take a look at your acne, ask about what you use regularly and prescribe something that will suit you. Usually they give me samples of whatever they've prescribed and coupons if it's expensive. Last time I went in for my acne and my dermatologist offered to inject my big cystic blemish with a steroid for no extra cost (I declined though). You might want to ask if your current face wash/skin are products are suitable for you. They've also given me samples of cetaphil cleanser and soap for my sensitive skin. My sister has oily acne prone skin and goes to a different dermatologist but I know they give her samples as well and have prescribed her a toner in addition to spot treatment. I use aczone during the day and differin at night. I think they are milder because my skin is very dry, but they still work very well. My sister uses tazorac, which is amazing but only suitable for oily skin. Epiduo is another good one, but not sure what skin types it's best for.

When I went, he asked for my current skin care routine then suggested a few products over the counter and prescribed me some topical treatments. But, I didn't really have acne, just some breakouts I wanted to keep under control. So I'm not really sure what would happen with someone with more severe acne, if they do tests or anything. But definitely good you're going! My dermatologist helped me a lot with my whole body too, not just face! Good luck! ☺️

You go in and they ask about your concerns, habits, etc..then examine your skin and give a diagnosis. Normally, they'll either give you product and instructions or a prescription and instructions. Don't be afraid to ask questions. They'll ask you to schedule a follow up appointment on your way out.
