I don't know a lot about starting youtube channels, but Bethany Mota (macbarbie07) and Michelle Phan are some good beauty youtubers you could watch to get some ideas.

I would make it alyssa then your last name, it's professional and easy to remember.

First things first, get a high quality camera, most beauty guru's don't use their phones to film and neither should you. You should also learn to edit videos very well. Imovie or Adobe are the number one programs. Some community centers even offer classes to learn these programs or you could always look online. Get proper lighting, proper lighting will make you look better and therefore you will be more appealing, making more people come to your chanel. Get a decent backround as well, it pains me to watch people taking infont of mountains of dirty laundry and trash.
Your first video should be you describing your chanel, what it will be about, who you are, etc.

Remember, youtube is a community, and talking to people and being over all friendly and charismatic is going to bring you the most joy :).

When you're just getting started maybe just use natural light and a good enough camera? I don't think anyone expects film equipment when you're new :)

I actually started YouTube last summer and I started with back to school based videos and it really helped get me subscribers and viewers!

I agree with Maggie.
I good quality camera is needed, a pixelated webcam and badly edited video will make you look unprofessional.

I would suggest getting a lightbox (available on eBay, Amazon) and a good enough digital camera, such as a Nikon
