How do you know if a foundation is right for your skin? And also how can you figure out what your skins needs are like technique, brush/sponge, skin care, etc.I'm really confused when it comes to my skin because it's normal to me I don't have dry patches but my foundation looks cakey and I get oily on occasion but with some few acne here and there it's just so confusing.

Ahh the life of skin, a confusing annoying thing in everyone's life!
Firstly you need to find out what skin type you have then you can work from there. Maybe see someone about your skin then they can advise you on what products to use.
I used the internet to determine my skin type and also my general knowledge.
I'm 19 and up to my 19th birthday I had combination skin so I always use to use a sponge and like wipe my foundation on. But sadly my skin type has now changed to dry. I now apply foundation to a sponge and pat it on.
Honestly the best way to find out how to apply foundation for your skin is to test different methods and see which way works best. I can't use a brush when I apply my foundation! It's just not right for my skin and it also irritates my skin.
Also when it comes to knowing if a foundation is right for your skin it comes down to knowing your skin type then you can work from there. When I had combination skin which was more oily I went for a mousse as it didn't add any extra oils to my face. Now that I have dry skin I use a liquid which adds a natural shine to my skin (that's just keeping it simple without going into to much detail)
Maybe go to your nearest drug store and get one of the girls there to help you out.
