Long hair! Help!

So lately I've been going everywhere with just a side braid and I want to do something more. I have long thick hair which is hard to handle:/ and when I try a hairstyle I saw on a tutorial it ends up terrible:( if anyone has any hairstyles that actually work for long thick hair, please please please please comment! Thanks in advance!:)
