I have thick, straight, layered hair. Every time I try and curl it, it never holds. I use heat protection and hair spray after. I also do the normal 1 inch hair at a time when curling. But 4 hours later my bottom layer is basically straight again, any tips to help my sad hair?

I always make sure I'm on 2-3 day old hair and apply dry shampoo thn curl it and pin it down. when the hair is cool I take out the pins and apply hairspray.

Try a curl spray. I use one from walmart (can't remember specifically) in a bright coral bottle. It's heat protectant and spray in one and it holds nicer than spraying after.

Also try pin curls! My hair sounds the same as your and I do that and it holds the curl all day. Normally I use a wand to curl my hair. When I wrap it around the barrel I let it sit there curling for a good 10-15 seconds. Then (DONT unravel the curl) slide the curl off and let it coil in your hand the same direction it was on the barrel and let it cool twice as long as it was on the iron. The take the curl that is still in the little circle coil loop and pin it to your head and do your whole head like that. I normally do my makeup after I do my hair to make sure the curl really sets. Then just take the pins out and you are good to go! :) Yes it will take you a bit longer to do it this way but my curls never fall if I do this method.

I also found when my hair is dirty it won't hold curls well so I normally wash my hair at night then go to bed and in the morning I will curl it or two morimgs after I took a shower.

The only way I can get curls to stay is to sleep overnight with my hair in rollers. I start with damp hair, roll it up in rollers, spray the bejeezus out of it with hair spray, wrap in a scarf, and sleep.
