Do you make it yourself in a lab or design it and the products and someone else makes it? Do you employ people or..?? Anyone know how it happens??Xoxoxoxo.

I'm sure you have to employ ppl for it who are qualified to make any cosmetic products. the European Union also has very strict law for any type of product you wanna launch... that all I know... maybe you could start finding someone who knows how to make cosmetics... if you like to make your own make up for urself here s a site coastalcents.com there you can buy pigment pretty cheap n anything you need... I never tried it tho... good luck I'm actually interested in hearing what it takes to start your own make up line.  xo.

My husband owns a lab where they formulate it,in house design team to assist with packaging. Its very complex process and to detail it would be book length. He creates skincare and colored cosmetics. As far as the expense to create your own makeup line...its VERY costly. Its not cheap at all. He has worked with clients who only started out with two or three products instead of an entire line because of cost. As far as employees go...they are a must and they all maintain a particular role to make everything all come together. A chemistry background is a must. My husband has a medical degree and recently completed his dermatology residency. Its important to have at least medical doctor with a dermo background on staff...hence the reason it cost so much money to create a line...paying for the expertise. If I remember correctly just for him and his team to create a lipstick line is about $20-30k range because it depends on the formula, packaging and units produced, testing (he doesn't do animal testing and nor does he use chemical suppliers who conduct animal testing).

Its definitely a plus to be a dermatologist if you wish to get into product development. Even dermatology research is an awesome field. Its a worthwhile field to get into and as long as us beauty junkies crave for more advanced products you'll never be without a job. ;)
